It’s just another Magic Monday!

 

Our May Event-stravaganza continues!

 

This Friday sees the return of Modern to FNM after a week’s hiatus. It’s a great opportunity to tune up and test out your deck before the Modern Regional Championship Qualifier on May 24th. We’ll also be running the special Spring Flourishes drafts this week and next! In this special draft, every player begins each game with an emblem that reads “At the beginning of your Draw Step, draw an additional card. You may play an additional land on each of your turns.” You’ll also receive your choice of special D&D themed promos while supplies last! This weekend will be all about learning! On Saturday at 1:00pm we’ll be running the Magic Academy: Learn to Play, where we’ll teach the fundamentals of Magic to new players. There is no registration, but the event does start promptly at 1:00. The next day, Sunday the 18th at 1:00pm, is our Magic Academy: Deckbuilding session. Players will open six packs of Foundations and learn all about building 40 card decks, just like at a prerelease! So, if you know anyone looking to get into Magic, or looking to hone their limited play, send them our way this weekend!

 

Our final major event of May is the RCQ on the 24th. Competitive Magic is a ton of fun. There’s something special about a tournament where you know everyone is playing seriously. There are cash prizes for finishing in the top eight, and a chance to advance to the Regional Championship for finishing in the top two. There are also cool promos for participating and finishing well.

 

As a reminder, changes are coming to Casual Commander starting in June. In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the event, we will be raising prices to $10 starting on June 3rd. Players will still receive a complimentary pack for playing, registration will still go live at noon on Tuesdays, and the event will still be casual and accepting of everyone.

 

We love our Casual Commander community, and we’re thrilled to provide a place for everyone to gather and play. For a number of reasons, our costs have steadily risen this past year, and this change allows us to keep supporting you.

 

This week’s featured single is Vigor, from Lorwyn. Vigor sees a decent amount of play in Commander and basically nowhere else. A 6/6 trampling creature for 6 mana is already strong, but Vigor turns damage to your other creatures into +1/+1 counters, which can be a huge boost to your team.
