Our Story

In November 2010, Labyrinth opened with a vision of bringing people together through play. We committed to delivering a wide, well-curated, fresh product selection, incomparable customer service, and fun, community-building events that represent the diversity and interests of our customers! Journey through time with us...

2010, Spring

A search for a Mancala board as a birthday gift leaves Kathleen Donahue exhausted and stuck in traffic. She creates a plan for a DC-based, community-focused retail store full of time-treasured games and puzzles!

2010, Fall

Labyrinth Games & Puzzles opens for business!

2011

In the store, we offer lots of hands-on activities and games that visitors can enjoy, including a large, free, try-before-you-buy game library.

2012

From “Boozy Board Game Nights” to Magic: The Gathering tournaments, Labyrinth quickly becomes the spot to buy or play your favorite games. 

2015

Our events continue and Labyrinth turns 5! (We love the pictures and memories from this video!)

2015-16

Labyrinth: The Expansion – Our store doubles in size by acquiring a retail space next door! 

2016

The annual “Tabletop Day” tradition (our carnival of games) continues! 

2020

Staff brave the challenges of Covid and deliver games all over town!

2020, Fall

Happy birthday to us! Labyrinth turns 10! Many famous game designers and community members sent messages of love and support to help us celebrate.
