About the Artist
Rex Ray (American, 1956–2015) combined a midcentury-modern aesthetic with a psychedelic color palette and amorphous shapes to create a pop style all his own. Born in Germany and raised in Colorado, Ray moved to San Francisco in the early 1980s, where he joined the Bay Area’s art, literary, and activist scenes. His bold style lent itself to fine art and commercial work. He created his collages entirely by hand and is known for popularizing the use of high-gloss resin panels – encasing his colorful, graphic collage designs in a glossy layer of resin. Ray’s work has been showcased in several books and is in major museum collections.
